I'm still trying to decide what to make of the Perry Miller dedication. I need to revisit his stuff we read in the intro seminar here.

The first time I read it I had no idea it was set in Boston. None. (Had to read it for the women's studies intro class in undergrad.) I read it a month or so ago and... yeah. Experience was different.

And WORD, re. Serena Joy as Phyllis Schlafly. I get mad at the folks who cite Tammy Faye -- if Tammy Faye was ever that bitter, or ever had the potential for that much bitterness, I've never seen the evidence. I don't know if I've ever told the story of the time Phyllis Schlafly came to speak at Agnes Scott (the first protest I ever went to), but man, that's the closest I've ever been and ever want to be to literal actual evil. Weaponized bitterness. Which is what Serena Joy's function is.

Wicked Truth

I'm a southern girl making my way through Yankeeland with a history degree and an artist's soul. I'm a geek and a dork, and I'm okay with that.

Sometimes, I even wear pants when blogging.
